Tanushree encourages me to take the plunge: Ishita

Ishita Dutta may have entered the industry as Tanushree Dutta’s sister, but this young lady is now carving a niche for herself. She garnered attention for her role in the Ajay Devgn-starrer 'Drishyam', prior to which she was seen on television as the protagonist in 'Ek Ghar Banaunga'. She is now back on TV with 'Rishton Ka Saudagr – Baazigar' (RKSB) opposite Vatsal Sheth.

The bubbly actor spoke to us about her role, her sister’s guidance and Pune.
You played a school girl in 'Drishyam' and now in RKSB you play a school teacher. Which of these characters are more relatable?
The latter is more relatable and more of me. The girl is close to her family, sensible and knows how to put her point across without hurting anyone. She is a modern small town girl. I haven’t shot any scenes where I am teaching kids yet. The character is shown spending time with family. One thing that I had to work on was the dialect. I had to make sure I sound like a Lucknowi.

You keep switching between films and television. Is there a favourite among the two?
I have always maintained that the role and not the medium is important for me. Both the mediums have their pros and cons but as an actor I would like to focus on my character rather than the medium of projection.
This will be your second appearance on television. Are you choosy about your work?
My work is a result of divine intervention. I don’t plan and take up things; they just fall in place. It does take time but it happens. My life has always been full of sudden developments and surprises and I would like it to be that way.

Do you consult Tanushree before taking up projects?
Yes, I discuss everything with her no matter which part of the world she is in. She is the reason I have and will keep making good decisions. She tells me to be patient, concentrate and work hard. She believes when you focus on your work, you will only keep getting better
opportunities. She encourages me to take the plunge. She helped me decide on 'Drishyam' and that changed a lot of things for me.

Tell us about your association with Pune.
Tanushree studied in Pune, so I would often visit the city. I remember spending time on FC Road. She would take me to various joints to enjoy local food. It was ritual to have ice cream every day. I still come down to the city as I have friends there.
